Job Description: 

The (Senior) Manager for International Affairs and Trade Policy will serve as a crucial bridge between DIGITALEUROPE’s headquarters in Brussels and key stakeholders in Washington, D.C., with a focus on strengthening transatlantic collaboration on critical tech and dual use issues.  

 

The role requires a hands-on approach, excellent networking skills and structured follow-up in alignment with headquarters in Brussels to represent DIGITALEUROPE in Washington, D.C., while expanding our influence and partnerships with U.S. government bodies, EU representatives, and industry stakeholders. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Establishment of U.S. Presence: 
  • Support the senior staff to establish a permanent DIGITALEUROPE presence in Washington, D.C., including coordinate all actions with the Brussels HQ staff and enable meetings, event and logistical requirements associated with our U.S. presence. 
  • Networking & Relationship Management: 
  • Support the organization and execution of networking events annually for DIGITALEUROPE’s member representatives based in the U.S., focusing on topics like critical technology and dual use collaboration, Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity, defense and critical infrastructure. 
  • Expand and maintain a robust network of key stakeholders, including but not limited to the Department of State, the United States Trade Representative, the Department of Commerce, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the National Security Council, the National Economic Council, the Office of Science and Technology Policy, Congress and EU and EU member state representatives.  
  • Represent or support senior representation of DIGITALEUROPE at relevant industry forums, conferences, and diplomatic events in Washington, D.C. Actively seek such opportunities.  
  • Produce stakeholder maps.  
  • Strategic Coordination: 
  • Collaborate closely with senior management and staff, to plan with and report back to DIGITALEUROPE’s Brussels-based teams to align on strategic priorities, ensuring that Washington-based activities support and amplify the organization’s European goals. 
  • Arrange and support 1-2 high-impact trips annually for the Director-General to Washington, D.C., ensuring meaningful engagements with top-tier stakeholders. Set up meetings for visiting DIGITALEUROPE staff. Arrange online meetings focused on EU-U.S. relations throughout the year.  
  • Reporting & Communication: 
  • Provide regular updates and reports to the Brussels team and members on U.S. policy developments, key meetings, and event outcomes. 
  • Ensure at all times seamless communication between the Washington, D.C. presence and Brussels HQ to align on priorities and initiatives. 
  • Contribute to position papers and to briefings for the Director-General.  

Key Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Political Science, Business, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred. 
  • 3-7 years of experience in government relations, public affairs, or international business, with a strong focus on EU-U.S. relations. 
  • Proven track record in organizing high-level events and managing complex stakeholder relationships. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in another EU language is a plus. 
  • Ability to work while maintaining strong connections with a remote team. 
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. and EU policy environments, particularly in digital and technology sectors. 
  • Must have a valid work permit in the U.S.
