Job Description 

The (Senior) Manager for International Affairs and Trade Policy will play a pivotal role in advancing DIGITALEUROPE’s transatlantic engagement agenda. Acting as a key link between our headquarters in Brussels and stakeholders in Washington, D.C., the successful candidate will help strengthen cooperation on critical technology, trade, and dual-use policy issues. 

This is a unique opportunity for a proactive and well-connected professional to contribute to some of the most important policy discussions shaping the future of technology and international cooperation. Working closely with colleagues in Brussels, the role combines strategic relationship-building, policy engagement, and representation, while helping expand DIGITALEUROPE’s visibility and influence in the United States. The hiring of a junior resource, reporting to the (Senior) Manager in D.C. is foreseen.  

Key Responsibilities 

Establishment of U.S. Presence 

  • Continue the development of DIGITALEUROPE’s permanent presence in Washington, D.C., coordinating closely with colleagues in Brussels and supporting the meetings, events, and operational activities associated with our growing U.S. footprint. 

Networking & Relationship Management 

  • Support the planning and delivery of high-impact networking events for DIGITALEUROPE members based in the U.S., with a focus on critical technologies, dual-use cooperation, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, defense, and critical infrastructure. 
  • Build, expand, and maintain a strong network of stakeholders, including representatives from the Department of State, the Office of the United States Trade Representative, the Department of Commerce, the National Security Council, the National Economic Council, the Office of Science and Technology Policy, Congress, and EU Delegation and EU Member State representations. 
  • Represent DIGITALEUROPE, or support senior representation, at industry forums, conferences, and policy events in Washington, D.C., proactively identifying opportunities to raise the organisation’s profile and impact. 
  • Produce and maintain stakeholder maps to support strategic outreach and engagement. 

Strategic Coordination 

    • Work closely with senior management and Brussels-based colleagues to align strategic priorities and ensure that Washington-based activities effectively support and amplify DIGITALEUROPE’s broader European objectives. Only a team player can succeed in the role.  
    • Organise and support two high-level visits annually for the Director-General to Washington, D.C., ensuring meaningful engagement with senior policymakers, industry leaders, and other influential stakeholders. 
    • Coordinate meetings for visiting DIGITALEUROPE colleagues and facilitate virtual exchanges on EU–U.S. relations throughout the year. 

     Reporting & Communication 

    • Provide timely updates and insightful reporting to colleagues and members on U.S. policy developments, key stakeholder engagements, and event outcomes. 
    • Ensure seamless communication and coordination between the Washington, D.C. presence and Brussels headquarters, maintaining strong alignment on priorities and initiatives. 
    • Develop position papers, briefing materials, and strategic background notes for the Director-General. 

    Key Requirements 

    • Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Political Science, Business, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred. 
    • 3–7 years of experience in government relations, public affairs, international business, or a related field, with a strong focus on EU–U.S. relations. 
    • Demonstrated success in organising high-level events and managing complex stakeholder relationships. 
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. 
    • Ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaboration with a remote and international team. 
    • Strong understanding of U.S. and EU policy environments, particularly in the digital and technology sectors. 
    • Valid authorisation to work in the United States.
