Policy Officer for International Affairs and Trade Policy

Job Description

We are looking for a dynamic Policy Officer who will play a key role in driving activities and positions related to digital trade policy and international affairs within DIGITALEUROPE. The ideal candidate will possess a good understanding of international trade and digital policy at the European and international level. Knowledge in export controls, dual-use technologies, and technology security frameworks will be an asset. 

In this role, the Policy Officer will help shape the organisation’s future positioning in an increasingly complex geopolitical context and actively contribute to shaping how the private sector can influence digital (trade) policymaking in the EU, as well as in international fora. 

The position offers the chance to engage with international policy makers on a regular basis, likely incl. officials from US, Japan and the G7. The Policy Officer will report to the Senior Manager for International Affairs & Trade Policy, but close alignment with the international team in Bruxelles and Washington as well as broad collaboration with other policy teams will be expected. Only a team-player can succeed in the role.  

A key task of the Officer will be the daily operation of at least one Working Group, and they will have substantial responsibilities in the running of the wider International Relations & Trade Policy Group. Member communication and the preparation of documents, presentations, and briefings will be recurring tasks. This also includes contributing to policy positions on export controls, dual-use regulation and related economic security issues. Responsibilities include stakeholder outreach, delivering value to members and external stakeholders when facilitating meetings, and establishing common positions with members. 

Key Requirements: 

    • Two years of relevant industry or governmental experience;
    • Knowledge and hands-on experience in international trade policy;
    • Proven experience working with EU institutions; 
    • Experience monitoring EU and international policy developments in digital trade and related areas, with early identification of issues;
    • Knowledge or strong interest in export controls and dual-use regulations;
    • Motivated, well-organised team player with ability to take ownership over files;
    • Proven ability to engage with stakeholders and promote a common vision;
    • Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills;
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, culturally diverse environment; 
    • Strong writing and analytical skills, including for the preparation of briefings(notably for US, Japan and G7 engagements); and
    • Proficiency in English.  

    Valuable Additional Qualifications: 

    • Proven ability to deliver results in stakeholder and alliance building;
    • Skill in building consensus among different stakeholders;
    • Experience working in an association, corporate organisation, or government agency; and
    • Strong presentation skills, including experience presenting to members, senior staff, and external audiences.
