Laptops for Ukraine donation campaign launched to help Ukrainians stay connected to the Internet

Today, DIGITALEUROPE together with the Ukrainian Ministry of Digital Transformation and the European Commission, have launched the Laptops For Ukraine donation campaign. By March 2023, the campaign aims to collect over 50,000 laptops, tablets and smartphones to help schools, hospitals and governmental administrations maintain essential services and ensure that Ukrainian citizens stay connected to the internet.

DIGITALEUROPE’s Director General Cecilia Bonefeld-Dahl said:

“Since Russia brutally invaded Ukraine, over 6000 people have been killed, 623 hospitals and 2663 schools have been bombed.  6.6 million people have been forced out of their homes, forcing their work, education and social lives online. But a severe shortage of electronic devices threatens to unplug the Ukrainian people from the internet.

About 70,000 teachers are in an urgent need of laptops to continue classes, and 200,000 children in the most affected regions are now learning remotely. In addition, many more devices are needed in hospitals or to keep essential public services running.

Give your spare laptop, phone or tablet a new life in the hands of a Ukrainian nurse, teacher or student.”

The campaign is open to both companies and individuals to donate working devices including laptops, tablets and smartphones. Collected equipment will be delivered to Ukraine via the EU’s Civil Protection Mechanism. Although a central collection point will be set up in Brussels (DIGITALEUROPE’s office in Rue de La Science, 14, Brussels), the campaign has the potential to expand to other European capitals through a network of collection points. Potential partners should get in touch below.

Once arrived in Ukraine, donations will be taken by the Ukrainian Ministry for Digital Transformation and given to where they are most needed. This could be a school, a hospital, a local administration, or individual people. All information about the campaign as well as Frequently Asked Questions can be found on the website.
