DIGITALEUROPE welcomes the Commission's "Digital Decade" strategy

Today, the Commission presented its vision for a digitally transformed Europe by 2030. DIGITALEUROPE welcomes the “Digital Decade” strategy.

Director-General of DIGITALEUROPE Cecilia Bonefeld-Dahl said:

“The Digital Decade is Europe’s chance to grasp the potential of new technologies to make our society a better place to live and to work. I’m glad to say this communication puts us on the right path.

Since our 2019 manifesto we have been calling for clear digital targets – to become a stronger digital Europe we need to constantly measure our performance and strive to do better. 11 KPIs is a great start, but we think there are other aspects that should be measured, such as funding for research and innovation.

We also need to coordinate our investments and link them to our wider digital agenda. Scale and speed are essential in the modern digital economy. The new mechanism for funding multi-country projects is therefore extremely promising.

The €150 billion recovery funds plus the new EU budget mean it is now or never. It is vital that the Commission has the tools, and the teeth, to ensure that Member States set ambitious national plans and stick to their targets.”
