DIGITALEUROPE appoints a new Executive Board that mirrors growth and Europe's digital strength

DIGITALEUROPE elects a new Executive Board of the leaders running Europe’s industrial and technology champions. Peter Weckesser (Schneider Electric) stays on as President, and Una Fitzpatrick (Technology Ireland) becomes Vice-President as Ireland takes the helm of the Council.

We have grown a lot. In fact, we are five times bigger than nine years ago, driven by sectors spearheading digitalisation: defence, health, energy, finance, mobility and the public sector.

“The strong interest in joining our Executive Board with more candidates than seats reflects the growing importance of DIGITALEUROPE as the voice of Europe’s digitally transforming industries,” said Cecilia Bonefeld-Dahl, Director-General of DIGITALEUROPE. “Our job is to recognise these champions, listen to what they really need, and take it straight to the Commission, Parliament and national governments to get things done. What we hear is the need to cut regulatory burden on AI, cyber and data regulations; to listen to real industry demands behind the next EU budget; and to pursue sovereignty done not through overregulation and protectionism, but by strengthening our companies’ ability to compete.”

Today, we are delighted to welcome our new incoming Executive Board and new members, whilst thanking those who continue serving and have served this past term.

Our new Executive Board

Our Executive Board is composed of 20 representatives in total, with 10 coming from DIGITALEUROPE’s corporate members and 10 from our National Trade Associations (NTAs). This provides the balance inherently needed to set our policy priorities and represent the breadth of Europe’s digitally transforming industries.

Our Board will be led by Peter Weckesser (Schneider Electric) and Una Fitzpatrick (Technology Ireland), respectively President and Vice-President.

“It is an honour to continue as President. Every sector is becoming digital, and Europe’s real advantage is the depth of its industries. Our mission over the next two years is to connect that industrial and technological leadership directly to Europe’s competitiveness and security agenda, and to be a genuine partner to the EU as it delivers it,” said Peter Weckesser, re-elected President of our board and Chief Digital Officer of Schneider Electric.

“Europe has the champions. Now it needs the confidence to back them,” said Una Fitzpatrick, Vice- President of DIGITALEUROPE and Director General of Technology Ireland. “Ireland takes the EU Presidency this week, and competitiveness is right at the top of the agenda. From the global names to the entrepreneurs scaling up in every country, our job is to make sure each of them is heard.”

The Board takes office with a clear priority for the term ahead: bring real industry and business expertise to Europe’s competitiveness and security agenda and work closely with policymakers and stakeholders to
deliver it.

The Road Ahead

Europe is operating in a hyper-competitive global environment, and the Commission is right to put technology competitiveness and security at the centre of its priorities. But this agenda cannot be delivered by policy alone – it requires deep, sustained collaboration with industry itself.

Europe’s strength has never rested solely with its tech companies. It lies just as much in the businesses across every vertical – energy, connectivity, manufacturing, finance, mobility – that are becoming increasingly technology-driven.

As Europe sharpens its focus on competitiveness, the connection between industry leadership and EU policymaking must stay strong – not as two separate efforts, but as partners working towards the same goal: a more competitive, more secure Europe.
