DIGITALEUROPE launches its Public Sector Executive Council

To strengthen Europe’s competitiveness and accelerate the digital transformation of its public services, DIGITALEUROPE has launched its Public Sector Executive Council. This new Council brings together senior business leaders from leading technology companies to bridge innovation with policy, ensuring that Europe’s public sector becomes a driver of digitalisation, economic resilience, and global competitiveness.

Cecilia Bonefeld-Dahl, Director-General of DIGITALEUROPE, highlights the importance of this initiative:

“Europe’s public sector is at a crossroads. Digitalisation is not just about efficiency – it’s about equipping our governments to meet the needs of citizens and businesses, enabling the uptake of critical technologies, and closing the competitiveness gap with other global regions.

With the Public Sector Executive Council, we are giving industry leaders a direct voice to shape forward-looking policies that create demand for European innovation, simplify procurement processes, and ensure our public services are fit for the digital age.”

About the Public Sector Executive Council

The Public Sector Executive Council is the latest addition to DIGITALEUROPE’s network of Executive Councils, which also includes Finance, Energy, Defence, and Health. It will serve as a high-level forum to provide business insights for better policymaking, and practical recommendations on how to:

  • Accelerate the digitalisation and automation of public services to enhance efficiency for citizens and businesses;
  • Shape the upcoming revision of EU Public Procurement Directives, the expected Cloud and AI Development Act and the European Business Wallet initiative, and foster, simplified, and competitive procurement and permitting processes;
  • Leverage public procurement to stimulate demand for European technologies and strengthen the continent’s economic resilience;
  • Promote public-private partnerships that unlock the potential of AI, cloud, cybersecurity, and other critical technologies;
  • Remove regulatory barriers that slow down the deployment of digital solutions in the public sector.

By providing concrete, high-value, business use cases and executive-level perspectives, the Council will play a pivotal role in influencing the policy agenda for Europe’s public sector. Together with DIGITALEUROPE’s Public Sector Working Group, it will contribute to building a digitally enabled, innovative, and competitive European public sector that benefits all citizens and businesses.
