Data privacy

At DIGITALEUROPE we are committed to ensuring that European users benefit from the highest standards of data protection and privacy. We also aim to ensure that protection and innovation can go hand in hand.

With an expected annual growth of around 10%, the data market is one of the fastest growing part of the European economy. Today there are already over 280,000 data companies based in the EU. This raises new challenges but it also presents, in even greater measure, a vast range of opportunities for Europe to tap in.

  • At DIGITALEUROPE, we aim to help Europe navigate this transformation. Our policy work notably focuses on:
  • Implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
  • The proposed ePrivacy Regulation, updating Europe’s rules for privacy in electronic communications
  • Ensuring the viability of international data transfers
  • The e-evidence proposal, ensuring that Europe’s approach to law enforcement access to electronic evidence raises the global rule-of-law and fundamental rights standard
Areas covered
  • Data transfers
  • ePrivacy
  • GDPR
  • Government access
