DIGITALEUROPE’s role lies in research, sustainability, project management, and communication and stakeholder engagement. 

Key Responsibilities & Job Description 

We are looking for an Associate Director for Projects who will be responsible for overseeing DIGITALEUROPE’s project portfolio and steering the project department. You will report to the Director of Projects. 

The position requires a Brussels-based strategic project and people manager and networker who has proven experience in European-funded projects along its value chain. It will require a pro-active, result- and people-oriented mindset. 

  • Support the management of the project team, including the planning of activities and allocation of staff on projects, closely working with the Director of Projects. 
  • Oversee the activities and implementation of DIGITALEUROPE’s projects and tenders, providing strategic support and guidance to the teams. 
  • Take a pivotal liaison role within the project department with internal policy teams, ensuring alignment along the value chain of projects and on policy deliverables. 
  • Support the senior management team with internal approval of deliverable procedures, event representation, and briefings. 
  • Nurture the relationship and develop engagement with DIGITALEUROPE’s members in projects. 
  • Coordinate the identification and securing of funding opportunities with Senior members of the team, including grants and tenders, to expand DIGITALEUROPE’s portfolio, aligned with policy needs. 
  • Ensure the adherence to best practices in research methodology and project management in EU funded projects, supervising, mentoring, coaching team members. 
  • Take a leading role in writing project proposals and tenders, supervising with several checkpoints the work of the senior managers. 
  • Develop contingency strategies and resolve project-related conflicts when they arise. 
  • Represent DIGITALEUROPE at events and meetings, provide scientific support to the senior managers for presentations and elaboration of scientific articles, fostering publications in peer reviewed journals. 
  • Strategize and implement actions for business development, including services to members, development of the project partner network, and more. 
  • Ensure the adherence to the internal project processes and procedures, refine the existing ones and develop new ones when necessary. 

Key requirements for the role include: 

  • Be based in Brussels, Belgium or willing to relocate. 
  • 10 years’ work experience in project management, with at least five years working with European funded projects and tenders. 
  • Demonstrated experience in working across the organisation and coordinating actions from staff across teams. 
  • Deep understanding of the European funded project value chain and European institutions’ functioning. 
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex matters to both a business and policy audience. 
  • Proven ability as a community & network builder. 
  • Proficiency in English is mandatory; knowledge of additional languages is a plus. 

It would be valuable to have: 

  • Extensive network of trusted contacts in the EU research and innovation field. 
  • PhD in an ICT field or related scientific area. 
  • Ability to build consensus and promote trust both externally and internally.
