Tech4Ukraine: Commission responds to digital industry’s asks
DIGITALEUROPE welcomes the launch of a dedicated digital tech hub for equipment donations to Ukraine at the Digital Assembly. The Commission’s “Tech4Ukraine” initiative comes after our joint call with eight national associations urging the Commission to support the delivery of vital ICT infrastructure to Ukraine.
Director-General of DIGITALEUROPE Cecilia Bonefeld-Dahl said:
“We are extremely pleased to see the Commission listening to the digital industry and streamlining the process for delivery of ICT equipment to Ukraine. Tech wants to help, but the process needs to be made as simple as possible.
It’s also great that they are looking into funding possibilities, for example in the Digital Europe programme. We look forward to seeing the details. It is so important that we act with speed because Ukraine needs this equipment right now.”
Europe’s digital sector supports Ukraine
In May, DIGITALEUROPE published a letter, addressed to Executive Vice President Vestager, Commissioner Breton and Commissioner Lenarčič, outlining the efforts sustained by the digital industry to date in supporting Ukrainians with ICT equipment, such as laptops, servers, handsets, printers, and cybersecurity software.
We also called on the Commission to boost the supply of equipment for telecommunications and data centre infrastructure to Ukraine, and to play a much stronger coordination role.
