Senior Financial Manager for projects

Job description 

We are looking for a Senior Financial Project Manager who will be responsible for managing the financial aspects of DIGITALEUROPE’s EU-funded projects, reporting to the Senior Project Manager coordinating the Project Management Area. The position is an exciting opportunity for a manager with minimum 5 years of experience with a good financial background, previous experience in project financial management and a strong interest in digital matters to lead the implementation of complex EU projects in close cooperation with DIGITALEUROPE’s Project and Policy Teams members. The resource will allocate approximately 70% of his/her effort in financial tasks and 30% in project management.

Key tasks and responsibilities

Financial Planning and Budget Management

  • Develop, implement, and monitor the project’s budget in line with the European Union’s financial regulations and guidelines.
  • Ensure accurate financial forecasting and planning for all project activities.
  • Manage funds allocation in accordance with project objectives and activities, ensuring cost-effectiveness and compliance with funding rules.

Financial Reporting and Compliance:

  • Prepare financial reports and statements as required by the funding body, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial requirements, audit standards, and reporting formats set by the European Union and the specific funding programme (mainly Erasmus+, Digital Europe, Horizon Europe Programmes).
  • Liaise with auditors when requested, providing all necessary documentation and explanations.

Grant Administration:

  • Monitor grant spending and progress against planned objectives and budgets.
  • Manage and oversee contractual obligations, ensuring that financial aspects of contracts and agreements with partners and subcontractors are adhered to.
  • Provide guidance and support to project partners regarding financial reporting and compliance with EU funding rules.

Financial Controls and Risk Management:

  • Implement and maintain internal financial controls to safeguard the project’s assets.
  • Identify financial risks and implement risk management strategies.
  • Ensure that all financial transactions are conducted and recorded in accordance with standard accounting practices and EU regulations.

Capacity Building and Support:

  • Train and support project staff and partners in financial management and reporting procedures specific to EU-funded projects where
  • Provide advice on cost-effective resource utilisation and financial best practices.

Required competencies and skills

  • 3 to 4 years of work experience in financial management of European-funded projects (particularly, Erasmus+, DEP, HE).
  • Experience in budget drafting and monitoring, and production of financial statements.
  • Excellent analytical skills, proficiency in spreadsheet ( Excel, Smartsheet or other tools)
  • Ability to work respecting deadlines and establishing priorities.
  • Excellent command of English.

Other valuable skills/competencies: 

  • The ideal candidate will have a Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or Project Management, the ability to work well as part of a team, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, be flexible towards changing priorities, and have excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of Smartsheet and fluency in other EU languages are desired but not essential.
