Helping recyclers and producers fighting e-waste through digital tools

Digital tools are helping capture environmental information and increase transparency. With APPLiA and the WEEE Forum, we are helping recyclers and producers of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) access the information they need to collectively fight e-waste.

To better respond to recyclers’ needs, DIGITALEUROPE and APPLiA (the association representing the home appliance industry in Europe) have created a single central online platform – the Information for Recyclers Platform (I4R) – where recyclers can access, free of charge, recycling information at product category level.

The WEEE Forum, an international association of producer responsibility organisations and a centre of competence, will host and maintain the platform.

I4R is an online, collaborative tool that allows EEE producers to comply with Article 15 of Directive 2012/19/EU on waste of electrical and electronic equipment.

This directive requires producers to provide information free of charge about preparation for re-use and treatment in respect of each type of new EEE placed for the first time on the EU market.

The I4R Platform is considered to be a best practice by the European Commission.
