DIGITALEUROPE welcomes the draft UK data adequacy decision

DIGITALEUROPE welcomes the draft Adequacy Decision issued today by the European Commission in respect of the UK. As soon as formally adopted following the committee procedure, this will be a key element in driving growth and innovation in our shared digital ecosystem, including all digitally transforming sectors such as finance, health and manufacturing.

Director-General of DIGITALEUROPE Cecilia Bonefeld-Dahl said:

“With six out of ten European companies transferring data across the Channel – from manufacturers and retailers to sectors such as finance – businesses in both the EU and the UK will be able to breathe a sigh of relief and look forward to a green and digital recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Today’s draft decision also bodes well for future EU-UK cooperation on digital issues, which we hope to see advance in the coming years through the formation of permanent forums of dialogue. Moreover, it sets both partners in good stead to pursue shared goals for digital trade, data protection and data flows at the multilateral level.

We look forward to a speedy final adoption of the Adequacy Decision and to contributing to this important partnership.”
