DIGITALEUROPE's statement on the Strategy on the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence
DIGITALEUROPE is supportive of a harmonized EU framework on due diligence (CS3D) to prevent fragmentation of the Single Market, improve legal certainty for businesses and increase the sustainability of our supply chains.
While the compromise trilogue agreement presents some shortcomings, like a lack of full harmonisation, it remains a more positive outcome than a worst-case scenario where 27 completely different sets of rules would apply across Europe.
We call on the co-legislators to overcome the currently stalled negotiations and find a way forward to find a final agreement. Should elements of the deal be renegotiated, we recommend in particular that co-legislators further strengthen the harmonization measures (Article 3a) and balance provisions on civil liability (Article 22) and stakeholder engagement (Article 9).
Once an agreement is found and the text adopted, we can collectively start working on an effective implementation making sure that European companies do not face additional burden of reporting and overlapping rules with other existing legislation.
