DIGITALEUROPE launches its Energy Executive Council

To bridge the gap between business and policy expertise and to advance the much-needed digital transformation of the energy industry, DIGITALEUROPE has launched its Energy Executive Council. The Council – comprising 11 senior executives from leading energy and green technology companies – is committed to boosting the competitiveness of the EU’s traditional energy-intensive industries and emerging clean technology sectors.

Cecilia Bonefeld-Dahl, Director-General of DIGITALEUROPE, explains why this Council is so important:

This Council is launching at a critical moment. Europe must urgently cut its CO2 emissions, lower energy costs for its citizens, and strengthen energy security. Energy prices in the EU are 2.5x higher than in the US and in 2023 alone, over 200 cyber incidents related to the energy grid were reported. With the European Commission’s Clean Industrial Deal and Affordable Energy Action Plan presented earlier this year, the time to act is now.

By bringing together senior leaders from the energy, green tech and digital sectors, this Council will inject much-needed industry expertise and real-world solutions and insights into Europe’s energy policy debate.

Energy technologies are listed by the EU as a critical technology for Europe’s economy security and it is time to recognise and realise that Europe’s energy transition depends on digital. This Council will ensure that innovation drives a more secure, sustainable, and competitive future”.

About the Energy Executive Council

The Energy Executive Council is one of four Executive Councils at DIGITALEUROPE, alongside our Defence, Health and Finance Executive Councils.

Bringing together senior leaders from across the digital and energy ecosystems, including industrial and energy technology leaders, IT companies and energy providers – all driving digital innovation — the Council reflects the diversity of the European and global energy and green technology sectors.

With companies at the forefront of decarbonisation, smart energy solutions, and digital transformation, the Council leverages its business expertise to provide concrete examples and actionable insights needed to support the policy dialogue on Europe’s clean energy future.
