DIGITALEUROPE calls for swift adoption of EU-US Trade Deal and launch of EU-US Digital Dialogue

The EU and US must implement the Turnberry Agreement and establish a broad Digital Dialogue with strong industry participation to boost transatlantic digital resilience and competitiveness.

DIGITALEUROPE calls for the swift adoption of the EU-US Trade deal and the launch of a broad EU-US Digital Dialogue. The EU and US must honour their commitments under the Turnberry Agreement and provide businesses with the predictability they urgently need. Ongoing negotiations on the implementing legislation should conclude as soon as possible so that the agreement can be adopted without delay.

In parallel, the EU and US should establish a forward-looking Digital Dialogue to strengthen transatlantic digital resilience and competitiveness. Companies on both sides of the Atlantic will benefit from closer dialogue. European and US technology champions need a strong transatlantic marketplace to compete in the global technology race, and industry can serve as a bridge across the Atlantic in turbulent times.

The transatlantic marketplace remains vital for Europe’s digital economy, industrial base and security. A dedicated EU-US Digital Dialogue is needed, but it must not be too narrow. It should cover the full range of strategic digital and industrial issues, including critical tech, secure connectivity, cybersecurity, dual-use innovation, energy tech, investment and resilient digital supply chains, while aligning the EU and US approaches to digital sovereignty.

  • We call on the EU and US to launch a broad EU-US Digital Dialogue. The dialogue should cover a range of strategic digital issues, from critical technologies and dual-use tech to secure connectivity, energy tech and common capability investment. There is also urgent need to start working on the EU-US Cyber Mutual Recognition Agreement, as committed under the Turnberry Deal. Let’s have a forward-looking agenda. Industry is a bridge across the Atlantic, and both EU and US companies need the transatlantic market to win the tech race.

Cecilia Bonefeld-Dahl, Director General of DIGITALEUROPE

DIGITALEUROPE looks forward to engaging with policymakers on both sides of the Atlantic to ensure the Digital Dialogue delivers practical outcomes. Building on regular missions to Washington DC and the work of our DC presence, we will continue to support a constructive transatlantic agenda focused on areas of convergence, including cybersecurity cooperation and resilient digital supply chains.
