Cyber Resilience Act: a big step forward for digital resilience but too much too soon

Last night, The European Commission released the long-awaited Cyber Resilience Act. DIGITALEUROPE welcomes this flagship proposal, which will be the foundation of a cohesive European cybersecurity framework in the years ahead.

DIGITALEUROPE Director General Cecilia Bonefeld-Dahl said:

The phased insertion of cybersecurity requirements in different laws in recent years has created a complex framework for industry that has exposed our society to heightened cybersecurity risks. We welcome the Commission’s efforts to address this crucial issue.

The proposal is a significant step forward towards addressing the incoherent regulations currently in place for physical products. On the other hand, it is too much and too soon to include all software in the scope. Both industry and governments are struggling with stretched cyber resources, so we must ensure a pragmatic approach to achieve practical results.

We look forward to continuing to work closely with the European Commission, Parliament and Council to ensure digital resilience for European citizens and our allies.’
