DIGITALEUROPE welcomes today’s positive vote on the European Commission
DIGITALEUROPE, the voice of digitally transforming industries in Europe, welcomes today’s positive vote by the European Parliament on the College of Commissioners, paving the way for the new Commission to start work on 1 December.
“I want to congratulate the European Parliament, Ms. von der Leyen and the European Commissioners. It is truly a great day for Europe, not only because we now have the first female-led Commission college but also because, for the first time ever, clear societal priorities set up their work in the next five years. EU Industrial strategy, artificial intelligence, digital inclusion and education and the European Green Deal are not only policy areas; they are projects for the generations to come that will define Europe’s position in the world as well as the future of European citizens” – said Cecilia Bonefeld-Dahl, Director General of DIGITALEUROPE.
“Digitally-transforming industries will be crucial partners and allies to European leaders for building a Stronger Digital Europe, and we need ambition and urgency!”, she added.
During the last two months, the European Parliament has played its democratic role in hearing and evaluating the proposed Commissioners. The appointment of the new Commission took longer than expected, but this process was necessary in order to address citizens’ demand for more transparency and democracy in Europe. Now that the assessment from the European Parliament is over, it is time to act. The next five years are going to be critical for the future of Europe and the clock is ticking.
