Job purpose

The purpose of the job is to drive the external and internal communication activities and outreach activities of DIGITALEUROPE, and to promote the advocacy positions and thought leadership activities.

The Communications & Political Outreach Director is responsible for the management of internal and external communications, press relations, event management and political outreach. The Director is a part of the management team and reports to and will work closely with the Director General.


Key tasks and responsibilities

Internal and external communications and press relations

  • Plan and implement communication activities using all media channels
  • Identify media opportunities and respond to media queries
  • Write press releases in coordination with the policy staff
  • Write and/or review articles on digital policy and digitalisation of society
  • Create internal and external newsletters
  • Manage the website and social media platforms
  • Supervise the production of marketing materials and publications
  • Manage video production from concept to editing to publishing
  • Manage and maintain the brand of the association and the creation of presentations, templates, promotional materials and giveaways
  • Identify KPIs and measure outcome of communications actions

Strengthen political outreach activities

  • Monitor and obtain intelligence on EU political developments and key policy issues
  • Identify and qualify speaking engagements for the Director General
  • Support the Director General in meetings with high-level policymakers and stakeholders
  • Support the Director General on major outreach activities – including, supporting and accompanying the DG at major events in Brussels and internationally
  • Identify key interlocutors for DIGITALEUROPE in Brussels and in Member States
  • Leverage DIGITALEUROPE’s network of national trade associations to share knowledge, define and implement joint pan-European advocacy campaigns
  • Plan and implement policy outreach plans with the DG, the policy and project teams
  • Oversee the production of thought-leadership studies and reports

Deliver external and internal events

  • Plan and manage external and internal event planning
  • Delivery of events, including programme, speaker identification, briefings and logistics
  • Shape DIGITALEUROPE’s sponsorship programme and marketing partnerships

Required competencies and skills

  • 10 years of relevant professional experience with proven experience in linking policy work and communications actions
  • Outstanding written and spoken English
  • Ability to drive fact-based argumentation and to advocate key policy messages
  • An extensive network of international press corps in Brussels and beyond (you may be a journalist with broader skills and experience)
  • Proven experience in working with the EU: extensive network in EU institutions and a thorough understanding of EU policy-making
  • Aprofound interest in digitalisation and the digital industry
  • Experience working in international environments
  • Strong and end-to-end event management experience
  • Excellent organisational, networking and interpersonal skills
  • Manage direct and virtual teams to deliver high-quality outcomes
  • Willingness and availability to travel regularly in Europe
  • Structured and a strong executor
