Policy

The DIGITALEUROPE IPR working group covers all IP-related policy issues except for copyright levies. It promotes the importance for adequate IP protection in Europe and serves to educate the decision makers, the media and other stakeholders on the use of IPRs by the digital technology industry in Europe.

The main issues covered over the past couple of years are the proposals by the European Commission to establish a European Patent Litigation System and to find an agreement on a Community Patent based on legally non-binding machine translations. With the support of its national trade associations DIGITALEUROPE also aims at convincing members of the European Patent Convention to sign the London Protocol which removes some of the burden and costs of translations.
