Privacy & security

Over the past few years, privacy and security has become a major topic on political agendas both at national and EU level. DIGITALEUROPE's Privacy & Security group is focusing on three areas of law and policy: data protection, online advertising and network and information security (NIS). Regarding data protection, the group is actively participating in the discourse on the implementation of the Data Protection Directive (Directive 95/46) as well as the revision of the ePrivacy Directive (Directive 2002/58) through the on-going telecommunications review. Regarding online advertising, the group is contributing to discussions lead by DG for Health & Consumers on the benefits and potential risks of monitoring consumer behaviour for commercial purposes, as well as the technologies used for such purposes. Last but not least, in the field of NIS the Privacy & Security group is contributing its expertise to initiatives and consultations lead by the Commission and the European Network Information Security Agency (ENISA).
