• On 30 January 2018, DIGITALEUROPE participated in the EIF debate with Carlos Moedas, Commissioner on Research, Science and Innovation, in the European Parliament.

    2 February 2018

Commissioner Moedas recalled the positive contribution of Horizon2020 on the European economy and society and stressed on the importance to make European research funding schemes more widely known throughout Europe in the future.  This is why the Commission is specifically designing the 9th Framework Programme to ensure that it will reach a much broader public, by setting up “missions” and strengthening the role of the European Innovation Council, previously a pilot scheme under Horizon 2020.

DIGITALEUROPE’s Director General Cecilia Bonefeld-Dahl took the floor to advocate for more targeted investment “missions” to foster innovation and maximise the impact of digital technologies in Europe. While welcoming the idea of the Commission to focus on selected research areas through specific “missions” in the next Framework programme, she also stressed that all traditional industry sectors were becoming increasingly digital. Digital innovation must hence be enshrined as a core principle in all these specific “missions” and not be left as a stand-alone.
