• Grand ambitions for EU Research & Innovation at GIURI Annual Event 2017

    19 July 2017DIGITALEUROPE was represented by Annika Eberstein in a roundtable on “EU Governance of innovation: from the mid-term review of Horizon 2020 to the 9th Framework Programme” at the Fifth Annual Event of GIURI, the Informal Group of Italian R&I Liaison Offices, on 6 July.

    After introductions by Kurt Vandenberghe, DG RTD, and Helen Koepman, DG CNECT, participants discussed several aspects of the next EU Framework Programme for Research & Innovation focusing on the proposed European Innovation Council. The panel was additionally made up of Muriel Attané, EARTO, Lidia Borrell-Damian, European University Association, Federico Menna, KIC EIT Digital and Noèmie Papp, European Banking Federation.


    Topics included general framework conditions for innovation, the innovation governance system and funding model in FP9, the inclusion of different actors in a diverse R&I eco-system, and how to embed the European Innovation Council within existing instruments, like Public-Private Partnerships. The panel concluded with a passionate call to arms for the negotiations towards the Multi-Annual Financial Framework to secure the necessary budget for the 9th Framework Programme.
