• DIGITALEUROPE speaks at Academy of European Law Data Protection Conference

    15 May 2017On 12 May, DIGITALEUROPE spoke on the “GDPR and the upcoming ePrivacy and Digital Content Directive” panel at the 2017 Annual Conference on European Data Protection Law in Brussels, Belgium. The conference, organised by the ‘Academy of European Law – ERA’, focused on the impact of the future ePrivacy and Digital Content laws and their overlap with the recently finalised GDPR.

    Speaking on behalf of DIGITALEUROPE, Director Damir Filipovic, joined speakers from the European Commission and the European Consumer Organisation – BEUC to discuss the potential conflicting provisions and areas where overlap may exist.
    During his intervention, Mr Filipovic discussed issues of concern with the ePrivacy Regulation including its inconsistency with the draft European Electronic Communications Code, its application to closed user groups, its applicability to machine-to-machine communications, the practical implication of the confidentiality framework, the possibility to include additional legal bases, the potential impact of law enforcement access to communications data as well as the timeline for adoptions and implementation.
