• Ambassador Holleyman stresses importance of a good transatlantic digital market

    8 July 2016Ahead of upcoming TTIP and TiSA rounds of negotiations, Ambassador Holleyman exchange views on further EU-US collaboration in the ICT field with DIGITALEUROPE.

    The Ambassador in Brussels to discuss the state-of-play and future initiatives of the Digital Single Market with Vice-President Ansip and the Head of Cabinet of Commissioner Oettinger Michael Hager, presented the outcomes of last EU-US Information Society Dialogue and noted that USTR is looking at some of those areas for the regulatory discussions in TTIP.  Trade policies have a very strong role to play in a future digital marketplace, he said. Behind the USTR « Digital Dozen », he was also confident that the Privacy Shield will be approved later this week, allowing then crucial discussions on free flow of data and localisation issues to start in trade negotiations with the EU.

    The dialogue moderated  by Damir Filipovic, Director at DIGITALEUROPE, also covered issues and challenges such as BREXIT and its impact on the Digital Single Market (DSM), current and upcoming DSM initiatives (Copyright, Free flow of data and Data ownership, e-Privacy) and the new AVMS proposal.  

    The Ambassador will fly later this week to Shanghai for the G20 Trade Ministers Meeting, and then to Beijing for continuing the discussions on the US-China Bilateral Investment Treaty.
