The European Commission - DG Enterprise and Industry - selected DIGITALEUROPE and European Schoolnet to deliver a European e-Skills Week campaign in 2012 to highlight the demand for citizens to engage in e-skills for jobs and for life. e-Skills are essential for professionals working in small to medium size enterprises, for young people looking to enter the workforce and for corporations who need highly-skilled talent.
In a time of economic crisis, e-Skills are more essential than ever. They form the foundations on which an innovative and competitive Europe is built. This exciting second European e-Skills week in 2012 will inform the young, professionals and SMEs about the vast range of opportunities that ICT-related jobs present. This important initiative of the European Commission’s DG Enterprise and Industry is coordinated by DIGITALEUROPE and European Schoolnet in conjunction with hundreds of national and pan-European partner stakeholders, including major IT industry partners such as Nokia, Microsoft, Intel, Cisco and many others.
Together, industry, education bodies and public authorities will deliver a large and diverse programme of events and activities for people at all levels of education and skills from January to May 2012. The campaign will culminate in a dedicated European e-Skills Week from 26 to 30 March 2012. The main focus will be to raise awareness of education, training, jobs, and opportunities that can be accessed through the acquisition of e-skills.
The first European e-Skills Week in 2010, which focused on raising the awareness of European citizens of the importance of the need for digital skills for jobs, reached out to an amazing 65 million European citizens across 35 countries and involved 284 stakeholders including 42 at pan-European level.
