Market Regulation
The Market Regulation group is working on overcoming next generation access challenges, and promoting the need for providing incentives for creating the necessary new infrastructure required for rolling out next generation networks. The group is also drawing together industry's contributions through the provision of a platform for industry to discuss the review of the scope of Universal Service currently being undertaken by the European Commission.
The group's most important work item over the past couple of years has been the review of the EU regulatory framework governing Europe's electronic communications sector. DIGITALEUROPE is supporting changes to the current rules which are aimed at further strengthening the position of the European telecom and ICT sectors by encouraging investment, innovation and competition, and is focusing on:
- Reinforcing the current framework's objectives to encourage competition, investment and innovation
- An internal market based on efficient and consistent application of regulations
- Encouraging efficient use and management of radio spectrum
- Streamlining procedure and simplifying rules and processes, as well as increasing transparency
- Fostering the transition from sector-specific regulation to competition law.
